On the road, week 1 (Belgium - Romania)

22/6

My bro Kars drove me to Durnal (south of Brussels), where we arrived two hours early (thanks Kars).
At 18.00h I met all the others of the group i'm going to travel with for 6 months. Nice people. Aged from 16 to 70, but a good click right from the beginning.
We got instructions about the organisation of the truck, set up the kitchen cooked a meal and talked to get to know each other. As usual travelers get along fairly relaxed and easy, so with the hour we all took a walk and ended up in the cantine for a beer.
The owners of the camping place were completely crazy, since belgium had just won from russia (world championship footbaal in brasil). The 3 old guys played their music so loud, that we decided to have our beers outside.
At 11 everybody went to sleep, since they had been up since 4.30 am.

23/6

Rose at 6, went from Durnan to Augsburg, Germany. Long, but nice ride. Arrived here on the camping lot, where we spent the night again.
See some football here tonight. Holland plays Chile, but nothing is at steak anymore since they're both in the next round already. I seemed to be the only enthousiatic about Hollands victory over Chile. Oh, yeah, I'm in Germany. ;-)

24/6

Rose at 7, drove for 50 K to Dachau, to visit the concentration camp there. Depressing as it should be.
Then on to Salzburg, Austria. Found a nice camping spot. Stay here for two days. Quit a bit of rain though.
Evening spend drinking white beer with travel buddies, playing guitar with james (UK), and good conversations.
All in all: the sart of the trip couldn't be better.

25/6

Rose at 7.45, breakfast and off to Salzburg. It's an astonishing city. Cathdrals, castles, beautiful parks. All in all great day.

And now: just managed to update this blog on a very slow laptop and with a very slow wifi connection. But hey, part of the deal.

And a big thunder storm just brooke out... sitting here in the camping places cantin... still, we're doing  ok.
Than it started to rain. Like heavily. So, 3 beers, a late dinner and off to bed at 10.

See you all later... a lot later actually.

26/6

Rose at 5.40, packed and on our way to Budapest.
Crossed the border, did shoppings (lot cheaper than Germany and Austria), found our way to the camping lot, put up kitchen and tents. Waiting for dinner now (wraps with chicken, sour cream and veggies (lovely)).
After dinner James and I played guitar together (two guitars that is) and it was f&*cking lovely. Complete harmony. Pink Floyd songs, some blues, Radio Head. Everybody loved it, including me (and does not happen often).
Then... slept like a log, the full 8 hours straight.

27/6

Rose at 8. Great british breakfast (love that) and off to the center of Budapest by bus.
Budapest is astonishing. Man, wherever you go... historic buildings, beautifull parks, the donau (that seperates Buda from Pest (not kidding)). Could easily spend a week here. Below is the parliament building (Binnenhof, eat your heart out).

So, strolled around for 7 hours, went back, did my laundry, showered, and updated this blog.
Spend the evening chatting over beers.
See you all later. Love this trip so much! This is what I am! Hope to do this like.. for ever!

28/6

Rose  at 5.30. On to Romania. Long, long day on the truck. Here's a short impression:

Crossed the border round 14.00h and drove on to this little village Sighisoara, where we arrived late.
Still had to make a bbq, so i suggested to go into the village and eat a quick bite (wanted to see football too to be honest). Two people didn't agree on that, so bbq it was, ending up doing the dishes at midnight (a bit frustrating to be honest).

Cheers.
